This sweet gentle soul, Chelsea Rayne Smith, age 26, of Oregon, passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday, April 18, 2021. Chelsea was born on August 15, 1994 in Toledo, Ohio. She attended Rossford Schools and graduated from Penta Career Center second in her carpentry class. Chelsea loved spending time with her baby, Ariyah and hanging out with her family and friends. She really enjoyed being outdoors and around animals.

DENIS MICHAEL ROBISON, D.D.S.

Denis Michael Robison, D.D.S., 81, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021. Denis “Denny” was born on November 2, 1939, to the late Willard “Bud” James Robison and Agnes Cecelia (Gregor) Robison in Toledo, Ohio. On June 14, 1963, he married Mollie (Boyd) Robison.

Laura A. Drouard, age 52, of Rossford, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, in her home. She was born April 24, 1968, in Guam, to John Jack and Carol (Guerin) Hayes II. A 1986 graduate of Troy Athens High School in Michigan, she was a flight attendant for the former Northwest Airlines for 20 years until their merger with Delta Airlines. Laura then went back to school and obtained her RN degree from Owens Community College, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She worked for various hospitals in the area and was a travel nurse visiting many different areas of the country. She was a member of the former Rossford Community Service League and a former member of the “Pierogi Squad” at All Saints Church.

ALVA CHARLOTTE (WEIDNER) HIRZEL

Alva Charlotte (Weidner) Hirzel passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on April 12, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Alva was born on July 22, 1928, to Emil and Natalie (Grenke) Weidner in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents divorced when she was young and her mother married Julius Hartwig Sr., whom Alva loved dearly. In 1943, at the age of 15, Alva lost her mom to cancer and dropped out of high school to raise her 5-year-old brother, Julius Hartwig Jr. She was very proud that at the age of 50, she earned her GED.

•STEPHANIE (STEF) JEAN JAKUBEC

Stephanie (Stef) Jean Jakubec, age 92, of Rossford, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Genoa, Ohio. She was born on July 1, 1928, in Rossford, to John and Mary (Galgocy) Jakubec. Stephanie was a graduate of Rossford High School and worked as the secretary at the Rossford Ordinance Depot. She also worked for the IRS and the Selective Services. Stephanie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toledo. She was proud of her Slovak heritage and enjoyed Polka dancing.

•EUGENE P. “SAM” JAKUBEC

Eugene P. “Sam” Jakubec, age 64, of Perrysburg Township, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born on May 2, 1956, in Oregon, Ohio, to Eugene S. and Molly (Vavrik) Jakubec. Sam was a tool and die maker by trade for many years, until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was an amazing cook and baker. Sam loved nature and being out on the Great Lakes. He was an avid fan of the Browns, Tigers and Redwings. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Joan Rose Kwiatkowski, age 88, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 16, 1932, to Edward and Helen (Stolarski) Bialorucki in Toledo, Ohio.

Anne Marie Filipiak, age 101, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 30, 1919, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, to Michael and Mary (Gaspar) Sedlak. She lived most of her life in Rossford, Ohio. She was a gymnast, high school basketball player and the only freshman girl to become homecoming queen. She built Jeeps during the Second World War. She married Chester S. Filipiak on February 7, 1942, and he passed away May 29, 1996.
