Due to heart failure, Colleen Lutz passed away peacefully in her home, with her family by her side, on April 6, 2023.
Colleen was bom on April 10, 1935, in Kenton, Ohio, to Henry and Kathryn Barry.
On August 29, 1959, she married the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Lutz. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1994. Also preceding in her death were her son, Christopher Lutz, October 15, 1992; her granddaughter, Brittni Lutz, November 19, 1991; sisters, Patrica Keller, April 8, 1980; Barbara Barry, October 24, 1999, and brother, Simon Barry, August 27, 2013.
Colleen is survived by her sister/best friend, Sharon Himes.
She is the treasured mother of Robin Hanson (Charley), Sharon Contat (Jeff), Karen Lutz, Kelly Joseph Lutz Sr., Wendy Mercurio (John) and Barry Scott Lutz Sr. (Barbara). She was a cherished grandmother of 29 grandchildren, a blessing to 62 great-grandchildren and one very special great-greatgrandson.
Colleen furthered her education after high school by attending Stautzenberger Business College, where she developed impeccable typing skills. This skill assisted her to develop a pathway in research for exploration in genealogy to her Fogel and Barry linage on her family ancestry. She loved this and spent numerous years on her research. Colleen and her sister, Sharon, experienced visitations to countless cemeteries, libraries and courthouses. She was passionate about her family heritage. She also enjoyed any type of restoration. She enjoyed working with wood and was very skilled in craftsmanship.
Colleen was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Grandma the Great,” a special title given to her by her greatgrandson, Spencer. This terrific name quickly spread to all the great-grandchildren. Colleen will forever be remembered as “Grandma the Great.”
A funeral service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Avenue, Toledo, at 10 a.m., Monday, May 1.
