Norm Szymanski, 83, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on November 10, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to Charlotte and John Szymanski. Norm was a 1956 graduate of Central Catholic High School, where he played football and wrestled. He married the love of his life, Elaine Quetschke, on August 8, 1959. They enjoyed 39 years of love and family time together. Norm was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and formerly SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, where he co-chaired bingo at the summer festival.

Norm began his career as a metal spinner at Calphalon Corporation (formerly Commercial Aluminum Cookware) and then became a shop supervisor for many years. He also worked in purchasing, prior to retiring in 2001.

Norm was a devoted family man, who most loved spending time with family. With his wife, Elaine, and their children, he enjoyed spending time at their families’ cottages on Lake Erie. He also enjoyed spending time with their friends at the various Ohio state park lodges.

He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching girls’ softball and was a scout leader. He always attended his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events, musicals and various school events. Norm was always there to support his family.

His hobbies included bowling and gardening. As a Michigan and Toledo Rocket fan, he enjoyed watching football and many other sports on TV. He loved to read the newspaper from cover to cover.

Norm will be remembered as a loving dad, papa and great-grandfather.

The family will really miss receiving his phone calls, which were consistently at the same time and day.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, John and Charlotte Szymanski, and his beloved wife, Elaine Szymanski. Surviving are his five children, Tim (Sharon), Tess (Darin) DeBlander, Ken (Debbie), Greg and Mike (Kellie); 11 grandchildren, Lily (Adam) Young, David and Matt Szymanski, Ashly and Anthony DeBlander, Jaclyn (Daniel) Schroeder, Alison (Joel) Bischoff, Madeline and Maya Szymanski, and Ryan and Nate Szymanski; six great-grandchildren, Owen Young, Esther, Miriam and Isaac Schroeder, and Abel and Malachi Bischoff; three brothers, Raymond (Louise), Richard (Mary) and William (Linda) Szymanski, and many loving nieces, nephews and family friends.
