Elmer V. Takats, age 92, from Rossford, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. He was born on March 15, 1929, to Vincent and Katherine (Kish) Takats. Elmer was the second youngest of nine children, and he was the last of his siblings to pass away. He married Sylvia J. Bruzda on September 14, 1957, and she preceded him in death in 2015. They had two children, Shelley and Mark. Mark preceded him in death in February 2021.

Elmer attended Rossford High School, but was not able to graduate. At 17, he was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army, where he was an MP from 1945-47. While in the service, he traveled by ship from California to Japan, and he was so proud to sit and tell you his stories. Since he was not able to graduate, he was able to receive his Rossford High School diploma in 2002.

Elmer worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company in Rossford, along with his six brothers, and he worked in the mold shop, retiring in 1991. During his retirement, he loved his scratch off lottery tickets, reading western books and watching western movies, with John Wayne being his favorite actor, and enjoying listening to Johnny Cash music. He loved his car rides down to the Rossford Marina, driving through the Rossford Eagle Point Colony looking for deer and driving down Elm Street in Rossford, so he could look at the house he grew up in.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Sylvia; son, Mark; his father passed when Elmer was only four years old; his mother; brothers, Jim, Mike, John, George, Joe and Vince, and sisters, Betty and Mary. Elmer is survived by his daughter, Shelley (John) Lawniczak; daughter-in-law, Janelle (Lucio) Takats; grandchildren, Hayley (Isaiah) Bevier, Jordan (Hannah Saba), Emily (Joshua) Bartlett and Alayna (Eric) Luce; great-grandchildren, Lillian Grace and Arabella Bartlett, arriving in October; sister-in-law, Pat Malohn, and his grand dog,

Hoover Lawniczak. Dad, you will be missed forever by your immediate family and your Cherry Lane family. You were the last of all the Dads.
