Don Edward Montague, 86, of Rossford, Ohio, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born March 19, 1935, in Toledo, to Frank and Louise (Brown) Montague.

He married Barbara Jean Shuman on August 31, 1957, and together raised six children. He is a longtime member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. In the U.S. Army he was with the 82nd Airborne Division and served as a medic.

For many years he was a member of the Rossford American Legion Post 533. For more than 30 years, he represented teachers at the Ohio Education Association and co-founded the National Staffing Organization. The East Toledo Family Center was important to Don in his childhood years, and he continued there into adulthood as a fundraiser and served on its board.

He was very passionate about sports, and was especially fond of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. For more than 30 years, Don played softball with various teams, including several that advanced to senior Olympics level. Don and his wife spent winters in Florida, traveled the world and sailed aboard more than 40 cruise ships.

Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Montague; children, Cindy (Ken) Drill, Nina (Robert) del Valle, Mark (Ann) Montague, Tom (Becky) Montague, Michelle (Willem van der Ven) Montague, Melissa (Ed) Conley; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tim Montague; grandchildren, Siena and Anya van der Ven; brothers, Frank, Harold and Gerald Montague.

Friends will be received at Sujkowski Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford (419-666- 1566) on Monday, May 10, from 1 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 11, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
