Daniel James Wagner, 54, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home, on April 18, 2022. Dan was born in Toledo, on August 25, 1967, to Carl and Kathryn Wagner. Dan was a Toledo Police officer for 25 years. For 13 of those years, he served tirelessly as the president of the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association. He retired in 2021.

Dan loved to cook. Many holidays were spent preparing and serving meals at the union hall to his fellow officers who were working those days, and to the rest of his family. Dan was the Wagner family mechanic, showing many relatives how to change a tire, change brakes or fix whatever was wrong with their car at that time. He loved cheering for Ohio State University sports teams. Dan also was the family genealogist and historian. Tracking down relatives and details of their lives to share with the rest of us. He loved World War II history. He collected memorabilia and stories of family members who fought in the war, remembering to honor them each year on Veterans Day. He also was an active escort in the Honor Flight program. Simply put, he will be missed by so many.

Surviving are his sons, Shane Wagner, Aidan Wagner, Ethan Wagner and Gabriel Wagner; brothers, Donald (Brandie) Wagner, Christopher (Gretchen) Wagner and Steven Wagner, and sisters, Christine (Ernie) Anello and Barb Gerken. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Edward Wagner and Kathryn Wagner.

The family will receive friends and family at the Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, on Saturday, May 7, from 1 to 7 p.m. There will be a short service at the funeral home at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association Charities Foundation, 1947 Franklin Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43604. Donations can be made to either the charities or to a fund for Diesel’s ongoing care. Just note which one in the memo field of check or in cover letter.
