Elsie “Debbie” L. Gyori, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 1, 1930, in Ipswich, England, to the late Walter and Ethel (Howard) Ranson.
Elsie married Norman “Bud” J. Gyori in 1954 in Ipswich, England, where they met while he was stationed there during the Korean War. They later returned to Norman’s home town of Rossford, where they shared 58 years together before his passing in 2012.
Elsie was very devoted to her faith and had a strong love for Jesus. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed knitting as well as teaching it to others, which for her was very rewarding to see the accomplishments of those she taught. Included in her list of favorite things was baking, (especially scones), reading, watching hummingbirds and sandhill cranes, and savoring a nice cuppa tea. She had a love of music especially old English hymns as well as her beloved Glenn Miller. She also enjoyed watching movies, especially “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison,” starring her favorite actor, Robert Mitchum. She also had a love for dancing. Elsie had a spirited personality that, along with her unmistakable English accent, endeared her to everyone who knew and loved her. Elsie also loved “Her Queen.” Her unique charm, wit and personality will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Left to cherish Elsie’s memory are her loving children, Karen (Chuck) Nachtrab, Sharon (Jeff) Eckman and Norm (Deb) Gyori; her grandchildren, Michael (Kait), Ellie, Katie, Jeffery (Chrystal), Lauren (Steve), Andy (Brittany), Nick (Jenna), Dana (Chris) and Nash (Gina), and her greatgrandchildren, Elsie Rose, Natalie, Alex, Maddie, Evelyn, Carson, Wesley, Keegan, Tinnley and Ellis.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman, and her siblings, Wally, Fred, Gordy, Cyril and Brenda.
Memorial contributions in Elsie’s honor may be made to Elara Caring Hospice, Brighton, Michigan branch; the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or St. Jude.
The family will receive friends at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, on Tuesday, October 27, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 East Front Street, Perrysburg. A luncheon will follow in the church basement after the Mass.
Elsie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
