Robert “Bob” J. Tatro Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 24, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert was the son of Robert “Blackie” Tatro Sr. and Marie (Maxwell) Tatro. As a young child, he moved with his family to Toledo, where they settled in the historic Old West End. He attended Scott High School and went on to build a life defined by hard work, determination and devotion to his family.

On May 20, 1967, Robert married Judith Ann (Bolander), the love of his life. Together they built a home and raised their family in Rossford. Their marriage was blessed with two children, son Robert and daughter Michelle. Robert and Judith shared 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2020. Their partnership was built on love, dedication and a deep commitment to family.

Bob was a skilled tradesman and entrepreneur whose work ethic and leadership earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. He was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 55 in Toledo for more than 50 years and served as business agent for the union. Throughout his career, he was committed to supporting working families and helping build the Toledo area through his craft and leadership.

In addition to his work as an ironworker, Bob and Judy were the proud owners and operators of Bob’s Concessions. Together they became familiar faces at fairs, festivals and community events throughout the region, serving generations of families and creating countless friendships along the way. Their business reflected the values they lived by—hard work, dedication and a genuine love for people.

Above all else, Bob cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, whose wisdom, strength and generosity touched the lives of many. He took great pride in providing for his family and creating a home filled with love, laughter and lasting memories.

Outside of work, Bob found great joy in the hobbies and simple pleasures that filled his life. He was a lifelong motorsports enthusiast whose passion began in his younger years when he raced at Toledo Speedway. His love of racing continued throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed following sprint car racing and NHRA drag racing. Bob could often be found attending races at many of the dirt tracks throughout the region, sharing stories and excitement with fellow racing fans and family members.

At home, Bob took great pride in caring for his yard and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed creating a welcoming space for the birds, squirrels and other wildlife he faithfully fed and watched throughout the seasons. He also had a special affection for animals, especially cats, and over the years shared his home with many beloved feline companions who became cherished members of the family.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Judith Ann Tatro; his parents, Robert “Blackie” Tatro Sr. and Marie (Maxwell) Tatro; his brothers, Gary and Jeff Tatro; his sister, Patricia Cornelison, and his step-sister, Paula Tatro.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Linda) Tatro III; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Dalton; granddaughter, Lesley (Lee) Gardner; greatgrandchildren, Colton and Rosie; sister, Jerilyn “Jo-Jo” Walters; step-brother, Michael Tatro; step-sister, Nancy McGee; sister-in-law, Victoria Bolander; companion, Karen Crawford; fur friends, Stella and Murphy, and many extended family members and friends.

Bob’s life was marked by perseverance, integrity and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Those who knew him will remember his strong character, his sense of humor and his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Robert and celebrate a life well lived on Thursday, June 18, at Eggleston Meinert and Pavley Funeral Home, 440 South Coy Road, Oregon. Visitation will be held from 2 until 6 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 6 p.m. All who knew and loved Bob are welcome to attend and share their memories, stories and the impact he had on their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Toledo Humane Society in honor of Robert J. Tatro Jr.
