Twp. fire dept. outlines proposal for contracted services with Rossford

A Perrysburg Township Fire Department proposal for contracted fire/EMS services with the City of Rossford led to what was likely the longest trustees meeting in more than 20 years. At the March 6 meeting, Fire Chief Tom Brice and more than 20 members of his department presented an initial proposal to the trustees and a packed meeting room.

Sandhill cranes mark the return of spring

Signs of the coming spring are showing with increasing frequency. Sandhill cranes are among the species observed returning to our area. In recent years, the numbers of this big heron-like bird have been steadily increasing.

The total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, will bring a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon to Ohio. The total eclipse will last only a few minutes, but traffic around the event could jam up roads for hours.

RHS wrestlers compete at OHSAA Tournament

The Rossford High School wrestling team ended its season by competing at the 2024 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Columbus. Junior Noel Reinehart placed fourth at 110 pounds in the girls division. Reinhart moved up the podium this year after placing eighth in 2023. She finished the season with a record of 33-9. Senior, Ayden Wilson placed fifth at 175 pounds in Division II, ending his season with a record of 42-8. Wilson was a sectional champion and district runner-up this season.

Red Cross blood drive set for Friday, March 22

WTOL 11 is partnering with the American Red Cross for their annual #11Together Toledo blood drive on Friday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be held at Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett Street, in Maumee.

District awards WATER grants to Rossford schools

The Northwestern Water and Sewer District (the District) awarded $1,500 in grant funding to Rossford Local Schools. The grants, known as Water And Environment Teacher Education Resources (WATER), aim to support educational programs focused on water resources. By providing direct funding to educators, it enables them to teach the vital importance of water in science and environmental stewardship.

RBA to award four $500 scholarships

The Rossford Business Association will award four $500 scholarships again this year, to seniors who are either a resident of the City of Rossford or Perrysburg Township. Applications can be picked up in the guidance counselor’s office at Rossford High School or at Inside Out Self Storage office, 194 Dixie Highway, Rossford.

Artists club to offer painting workshop

Trisha Koelsch will offer a “Poppies are Popping” acrylic painting workshop on Saturday, March 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Toledo Artists’ Club, 5403 Elmer Drive. The class is open to artists of all levels and features step-by-step instructions by Ms.

In keeping with our mission of Community First through Service and Partnerships, the Rossford Police Department is in the early stages of instituting an unmanned aerial drone program. This technology will improve the situational awareness of officers in the field and act as a force multiplier on certain types of calls for service. Specific law enforcement uses for a drone also include: search and rescue; locating suspects; crime and crash scene reconstruction; tactical operations support; emergency and natural disaster support; de-escalation, and large event overwatch operations.
