WGU Ohio celebrates five years of helping students close the skills gap

State education and workforce leaders are celebrating the fifth anniversary of Western Governors University Ohio (WGU Ohio) this month and expressing their continued enthusiasm for the positive impact WGU Ohio has had in helping close the skills gap. Since its inception, 72 residents from Wood County have earned their bachelor’s or master’s degree from the university.

Summer music series in Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids Historical Society is sponsoring the “Rhythm on the River” music series. The concerts will be presented at the Wright Pavilion, on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River behind LaRoe’s Restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids.

First Mayor’s Cup awarded to Oregon mayor

The first ever Mayor’s Cup, in support of the Italian Bowl, was held June 25. The competition was fierce, and Mike Robinson from 4th and Goal put all the mayors–including Rossford Mayor Neil MacKinnon III, seventh from the right–through their paces. When all was said and done, Oregon Mayor Mike Seferian was proclaimed Mayor Cup Champion and the runner-up was Tontogany Mayor Matthew Shanahan.

Local Declaration of Independence reading set for July 4th

The Northwest Ohio Conservative Coalition is sponsoring a public reading of the Declaration of Independence by veterans, first responders and their family members on Tuesday, July 4, at noon. The event will take place at Hood Park, 105 West Front Street.
