Steven L. Helton, 76 of Rossford, took his first step towards heaven on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.

Steve was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, to Cleo (Stapleton) and Lawrence Helton on October 16, 1947. Steve graduated from Rossford High School in 1965, where he excelled in pitching for the baseball team. He furthered his education for two years at Owens Community College. He was proud to serve in the USAF from 1969-1972 followed by two years in the Air National Guard. Steve was hired out as a conductor on the B&O railroad in 1966, that later became CSX Transportation. He retired after 41 years of service in 2007.

Steve began his coaching career by coaching his sons and their childhood friend, Brian Lorenzen, in baseball, basketball and flag football. He loved coaching and continued

by coaching girls high school basketball from 1993 through 2019.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Lawrence Helton, and his wife’s parents, Margaret Ann and George Brimmer.

Steve is survived by his wife, Cathy (Brimmer), whom he met in 1964, married in 1967 and continued their loving marriage for 56 years. He also is survived by his brother, Chris; sister, Debbie; his sons, John (Jennifer) and Blaine (Julie), and grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, Madeline, Sophia and Grace.

While Steve had his serious side, he enjoyed being the life of the party by telling jokes and being lighthearted in nature.

Cathy and her sons would like to recognize the family, friends and the Hospice caregivers who went above and beyond in helping with the caregiving for Steve. The abundance of love and support that our family received is deeply cherished.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, April 12, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road. Rossford.

Those who wish to make memorial contributions in Steve’s honor are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Condolences may be made to the family online at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
