Nicole “Nicky” Michele Hancock, 36, of Perrysburg, died as a result of breast cancer on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She was raised by James F. and Michele Brown and born in Oregon, Ohio, on September 2, 1986, to Darrell A. Dusseau and Michele (Freeze) Dusseau.

Nicky married her husband, Christopher J. Hancock, on June 28, 2014, on a humid day in Hocking Hills. Together, they have instilled the values of determination and curiosity into their two children.

Nicky was a caring and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She spent much of her time sharing laughter and life experiences with those she loved. She loved to garden, taking great pride in her raspberries. She was always ready to share a recipe, tell you about an ingredient or express disbelief about the amount of sugar in apple juice.

Nicky dedicated her life to improving the lives of others, earning a bachelor’s degree at Bowling Green State University, and gaining accreditation as a registered nurse.

With this passion, she devoted herself to a career as a health and nutrition coordinator for Toledo Public Schools, working with families and children across the district.

Nicky was adventurous and had an innate curiosity. She was always the fastest kid on the sledding hill and would run to get back in line for a rollercoaster. She enjoyed staying active, camping and rock climbing with family and friends. She had a passion for travel and studied abroad in Spain. She was creative, played piano and loved watching Korean dramas.

Nicky was a light that could not be dimmed. She met challenges head-on, pushing through where others would falter. In this, she was an inspiration for those around her.

Nicky is survived by her husband, Chris Hancock; children, John C. Hancock and Kira N. Hancock; parents, Jim and Michele Brown; brother, Jim (Isha) Dusseau; sister, Jamie Mauder; nephews, Maddox Dusseau, Gary Matney and Gage Matney; parents-in-law, Sandra and Doug Hancock; sister-in-law, Julie Distel; nieces-in-law, Paige Leavitt and Danielle Distel, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, two aunts, one uncle and two cousins.

Loved ones will be received at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, on Friday, June 30, from 2 to 7 p.m., with a funeral service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nicky’s family for her children’s education. Online condolences may be left at walkerfuneralhome.com.
