Louis S. Pietrasz, age 96, of Rossford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born on November 4, 1926, to Louis and Hedwig (Pacieszniak) Pietrasz in Rossford. Louis attended St. Mary Magdalene Catholic grade school and later graduated from Rossford High School in 1944. As a member of the “Greatest Generation,” he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 17. Upon turning 18, he was called to Europe to serve in World War II. In the Army Air Corps, he was trained as an aircraft mechanic, but his active-duty role was an “entertainment specialist,” which led him to various locations in France, England and Germany. In 2010, he had the privilege to be a participating member on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

After the war, Louis returned to Rossford. He met his wife Joan (Michalak) and married her in 1958. They raised two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Julie. He worked at Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Factory for more than 40 years. He co-owned Lou and Ray’s Bergin Bar with his brother, Raymond. He also worked as a bartender at Hospitality Motor Inn and the Toledo Country Club, where his gift of gab served him well. His charisma was contagious, and he made friends wherever he went. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and VFW Post 6409.

Louis found joy in his family, cheering on his favorite Ohio and Colorado sporting teams, and occasionally indulging in his favorite cocktail, a Manhattan.

Louis is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Jeffrey) Sabin and Julie (Silvio) Veluscek; six beautiful granddaughters who were his pride and joy, Allie (Ben) Koger, Katie Sabin, Maggie Sabin, Alaina (Kevin) Hansom, Kaetlyn (Brad) Stankie and Francesca (Ben) Kaiser; great-grandchildren, Evie, Maddie and Cameron Koger, Emory Hansom, Vincent and James Stankie; sister, Clementine “Tina” Kachmarik, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, and brother, Raymond.
