Robert David Hirzel of Rossford passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 71. He was born April 19, 1952, to Robert and Alva Hirzel. He was a 1970 graduate of Rossford High School and Penta County, where he learned the welding trade.
Bobby was an incredibly devoted son, dedicating many years of his life to caring for his late father and mother. He also will be remembered as a beloved brother, proud uncle and great uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and loved watching them grow into adulthood and build families of their own.
The unofficial family historian, he was very proud of his heritage and loved sharing family stories.
Bobby was 6’4” in stature but never intimidating. He was thoughtful and kind, always showing up for his nieces’ and nephews’ birthday parties and bringing treats in his pockets for the dogs. He was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and New York Yankees. Some of his happiest moments were attending Ohio State football games with friends and family.
He is survived by his sisters, Cheryl (Kevin) Fitzpatrick and Nancy (Craig) LaHote; nephews and nieces, Mike (Katie) Fitzpatrick, Nick Fitzpatrick, Mark (Rachael) Fitzpatrick, Lindsay (Austin) Rozelle, Alex (Kelly) LaHote and Jessica LaHote, and eight greatnieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hirzel and Alva Hirzel.
Visitation will be held at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road in Rossford on Friday, October 13, from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, October 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m., followed by a burial at Lake Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Delta, or the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
