Joseph J. Gniewkowski, 73, passed away peacefully in Sylvania, on September 3, 2023. He was bom to his parents, Eugene and Josephine (Konieczna) Gniewkowski, in Toledo, on February 16, 1950. He and his family resided in Rossford, and he was a 1968 graduate from Rossford High School. Known as “Niffer” or “Big Joe” by many, he was a true athlete playing football, basketball, bowling and softball.

Out of high school, Joe enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard and served as military police. He was ac-tive in the Rossford American Legion with many of his friends and was a former commander.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cheering on many sports, but specifically the Cleveland Guardians and the Michigan Wolverines. He had a charismatic personality and enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories with friends and family.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Greg) Mac-Kinnon; grandchildren, Ashton and Charlotte; sisterin- law, Mary Jo Gniewkowski; nephew, Wayne (Carey) Gniewkowski, and niece, Joella (Eric) Stern.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, David Gniewkowski.

To memorialize his life, Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Road, Rossford, on Saturday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. Family will receive guests starting at 9 a.m. A luncheon will be held afterwards at the Rossford American Legion.
