St. Tim’s Discovers series opens Nov. 5

St. Tim’s Discovers, a music recital series based at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Perrysburg, opens the 2023-24 season on Sunday, November 5, at 3 p.m., with a performance in honor of the series founder, Dr. Doug Neckers. The inspiration for this year’s first concert was created by area musicians Merwin Siu and Nancy Lendrim, both of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.

Woodcarver’s show set for Oct. 27-28

The Sauder Village Woodcarver’s Show, “The Art of Wood,” will be held on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28, in Founder’s Hall. The Midwest’s premiere showcase for wood artisans and craftspeople, this annual event features demonstrations, spectacular exhibits, and unique, hand-crafted items for sale.

Nominations open for state fire service, hall of fame awards

The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of EMS has opened their nominations for the annual Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame and Fire Awards ceremony. The event will honor recipients April 24, at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in downtown Columbus.

Crawford receives scholarship

Seth Crawford, of Rossford, was one of 680 students who earned named scholarships at Baldwin Wallace University this fall. A graduate of Toledo School for the Arts majoring in music theatre, Seth earned the E.S.

Salvation Army seeking Thanksgiving donations

The Salvation Army Greater Toledo will be distributing Thanksgiving food items to local residents in need. Donations should be dropped off by Monday, November 13, at the Salvation Army, 620 North Erie Street, Toledo.

GLCAP offers winter heating assistance

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) will again offer heating assistance for those facing a utility shutoff or fuel shortage this winter. The GLCAP Winter Crisis Program helps residents of Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood counties who are at risk of a utility shut-off, have disconnected utilities, or need to establish or transfer new service.

Citizens Police Academy learns about mental health in the justice system with ARC, NAMI and Oggy the doggy

On October 18, students of the Rossford Citizen Police Academy heard from several guest speakers about the impact that mental illness has on the community. Deputy Officer Kaleb Smith and Madison Weilnau both work with the Wood County Addiction Response Collaborative (ARC). Pictured below, they presented information about the toll that drug addiction can take and the steps that their program is taking to save people from drug abuse.
