All Saints Catholic Church will host the Toledo Symphony on Sunday, December 17, at 4 p.m., at 628 Lime City Road, Rossford. The program will be a collection of holiday and classical favorites, with a guest performance by Chelsie Cree.

Plant workers, employed before 1981 and diagnosed with various cancers, are entitled to special benefits. Lung, esophageal, laryngeal, pharyngeal, stomach, colon and rectal cancers, along with mesothelioma are frequently caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos-laced products were used for decades at LOF Glass Company. Neither employees nor management were aware of the asbestos risk.

Toledo Health systems partner to improve housing in Lucas County

Nationwide Children’s Toledo, Mercy Health and ProMedica are partnering to address the social, economic and environmental factors that impact the health of children and families in the Toledo community. Each system has invested in social determinants of health individually but during recent months agreed to work together to have a stronger impact on addressing these critical issues that affect childhood and overall community health. Working collaboratively with community organizations, these local hospital systems will improve housing affordability and quality, support lead remediation and reduce lead exposure for families in northwest Ohio.

THS to hold Home for the Holidays foster program

The Toledo Humane Society is holding its annual Home for the Holidays foster program. THS is currently seeking foster homes to take in an animal or two starting December 23, and give them the love and attention they deserve.

Rossford schools to open the ‘R’ to the community

Rossford school district is planning to provide access to its new multi-use facility, the “R,” to district residents beginning January 8. Upon application approval, adults who live within the school district will be able to use the three-lane indoor track and cardio equipment in the fieldhouse portion of the building from 6:45 to 8:45 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Winter begins on December 21 and ends on March 19, 2024. Many people lament the arrival of winter, perhaps thinking the colder temperatures and shorter hours of sunlight will compromise their chances to have fun.

Donations accepted through Dec. 14

office, 130 Louisiana Avenue, Perrysburg is collecting winter accessories for distribution to area families in need this holiday season. Residents are invited to hang new mittens, gloves, scarves or hats on the tree. As a special incentive, anyone who donates can enter to win a $100 gift certificate to Rose and Thistle Pub and Restaurant in downtown Perrysburg. The Journal also is accepting donations of pet food placed under the tree for the Wood County Humane Society.
