Grand Rapids Jazz and Arts Festival is Aug. 18

The Grand Rapids Arts Council will host its annual Jazz at the Rapids, Sunset Jazz and Art Festival, Sunday, August 18, from 2 p.m. to dusk, on the towpath, downtown Grand Rapids. Admission is free.Featured performers include: Lake Erie Jazz quartet, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Hockey benefit to be held for twp. firefighter with cancer

On Saturday, September 7, at 6 p.m., Tam-O-Shanter will host a hockey benefit game between the Toledo Fire Firefighters and Wood County FOP. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Troy Bernhard, a long-time firefighter/paramedic with Perrysburg Township.

Native plant sale set for September 14, 15

Blue Creek Seed Nursery, 7790 Schadel Road, Whitehouse, will hold a fall plant sale on Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15. Sale hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.Organizers note that the fall season is a good time to put native plants and seeds in the grounds.

New school bus safety public awareness campaign coming to Ohio

The Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) is introducing a new public awareness campaign to remind drivers about school bus traffic laws. The message is focused on the school bus stop law, which requires drivers to stop for school buses when they are picking up or dropping off children.

ODOT director steps down, Boratyn to fill post

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Jack Marchbanks will step down on September 30, and Pamela Vest Boratyn will take over as director on October 1. Boratyn’s appointment will need to be confirmed by the Ohio Senate.
