University of Toledo women’s basketball player and Rossford native Sammi Mikonowicz had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at last Sunday’s Toledo Mud Hens game. The entire team was in attendance at the game as well, signing autographs and taking photos with their 2021-22 Mid-American Conference championship trophy on the concourse. It was the Mud Hens’ final home game of the season. As a sophomore last season, Mikonowicz was named Academic All Mid-American Conference, and tied a UT record with 22 rebounds in a game against Ohio University. One of just 16 players in Division I with at least 22 rebounds in a game during 2021-22, the Rossford High School graduate is ranked ninth in the MAC in rebounds at 7.69 per game. An early childhood education major, Mikonowicz was one of three Rockets to start all 35 games last season. She is the daughter of Ed and Michelle Mikonowicz of Rossford.
