John M. Lawniczak, 65, of Perrysburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital emergency room. John was born to Betty and Jerome Lawniczak on October 19, 1956, in Toledo.

John spent his whole life in Rossford (once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog), until he married the love of his life, Shelley (Takats), another lifelong Bulldog on August 7, 1993. This year they would have been married 29 beautiful years. In 1995, they built their home, which was exciting, but it took them out of Rossford.

John graduated from Rossford High School in 1974. As a little boy, he peddled papers and most recently was still talking about his old customers. He worked as a Rossford Marina guard, at the Rossford L-O-F Glass plant and then retired in 2010 as a groundskeeper with the Rossford Board of Education.

John, in his younger years, played softball with the Ukes and Polish clubs in Rossford, was in a bowling league at Rossford Lanes, played on a Rossford couples dart ball team and also on a Rossford men’s dart ball team as the captain. John served as president of his union with Rossford Schools.

His interests were the Detroit Tigers, Lions and University of Michigan sports, especially football. Go blue! He loved sitting in the garage on the weekends, soaking up the sun with a few beers in hand, enjoyed going to his cottage on Silver Lake in Michigan, when he was able to, and riding on his golf cart or just riding the waves on his pontoon. He enjoyed grilling and had the best chicken recipe. He also used his smoker. The first time, we all got sick on his smoked turkey, but that didn’t stop him.

John was preceded in death by his parents. His mother passed just recently in February, and he also was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother-in-law.

John is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; his furry child, Hoover; siblings, Jimmy (Deb) Lawniczak, Linda (Jim) Kreger, Daniel Lawniczak and Sue (Herb) Cook, along with many nieces, nephews and greatnephews.

Friends were received on Tuesday, July 5, for visitation at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, Rossford, from 4 to 8 p.m. On Wednesday, July 6, friends were received at All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at Ft. Meigs Union Cemetery, Perrysburg.

A special thank you to Perrysburg Township Fire and EMS team, Perrysburg Police Department, and to the doctors and staff at St. Vincent emergency room.
