Jacob Shufritz, age 87, died surrounded by loved ones at Kingston Residence Perrysburg, after a short illness.

Jake was a lifelong resident of Rossford and was born on September 15, 1934, residing on Riverview Place until moving to Kingston in 2020. He attended Rossford Schools and in high school was involved in student government and served as class president as well as treasurer before graduating in 1953.

Jake enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after high school serving as a technical sergeant stationed in Panama with his twin brother, Joe. After returning home, he worked at the L-O-F Rossford plant, where he retired after 30 years.

Jake enjoyed watching sports, especially Ohio State, Cleveland Browns and Indians. He was not shy about expressing his disfavor when his teams were not playing well. He also was a diehard Rossford fan and attended games when he was younger. He was well known for having regular breakfasts at his favorite place, Moodys, and he enjoyed his yearly trips to Las Vegas and his Pontiacs. Jake was a gentle man who always had a smile for anyone. He was quiet, but loved a good joke and was known for his sarcastic wit. He was very proud of his time in service and gave generously to veterans charities and police and fire organizations.

Jake was proceeded in death by his parents, Peter Shufritz Sr. and Mary (Lisik) Shufritz; brothers, John, Mike, Peter Jr., Frank, Joseph, and sister, Helen, who passed shortly before him. He also was preceded by nephew, Richard. Jake is survived by nieces and nephews, Steven (Nanci) Shufritz, Cindy (Gary) Aring, Mary (Chris) Covill and Lynn (Karl) Schultz; 10 great-nieces and nephews and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their grateful thanks to Kingston Residence of Perrysburg Memory Care staff for their excellent care and for making him comfortable and happy his last couple years. He loved the attention he received there.
