The family of David C. Olwick is saddened to announce his passing on April 24, 2024. He passed surrounded by his loving wife, three daughters and three stepsons. Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

David was born in Toledo, on October 8, 1943, to the late John Olwick and the late Florence Schmidt. He graduated from Woodward High School and became a tool and die maker at Chrysler, where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 2000.

David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marcia Baker (McElroy) Olwick; daughters, Mary Beth (Martin) Rowe, Danielle (Ernst) Oehm, Kelly Olwick; three stepsons, Marc (Vanessa) McElroy, Kirk (Hannah) McElroy, Nick (Kristi) McElroy; sister, Sharon Olwick Bergmosser, and many nieces and nephews.

Grandpa Dave, as he was fondly referred to, will be missed immensely by his 15 grandchildren, Megan, Melanie, Molly, MaryAnn, Michelle, Hanna, Christian, Lindsay, Emily, Lila, Addelyn, Brayden, Amelia, Hank and Eloise, and five greatgrandchildren, Lupin, Flora, Teddy, Willow and Lilly.

We are all grateful for the memories of our time spent at the lake house fishing, boating, tubing, making s’mores and sitting on the swing. He and Grandma Marcia traveled wherever his children and grandchildren were to spend time with them and to celebrate their accomplishments, always being there whenever he was needed. You could often find Dave in his recliner relaxing with Olive, the cat he thought he didn’t need, who won over his heart.

Dave was known for his sense of humor (he could find a rhyme anytime) and creating unique nicknames for those he loved (Ponkey, Little Big Dan, Tinker and Punkie doodle, to name a few). He had a huge heart and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He also was known for his ability to fix anything and to create solutions to make Marcia’s life easier.

A memorial service will be held at Rossford United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m., for visitation, with a service at 11.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to be made to Dr. Paul Grossfeld Heart, Research Fund, Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation, 3020 Children’s Way, San Diego, California 92123, to benefit his sweet redheaded granddaughter.
