St. Francis de Sales School has named Charles Woolridge as its head football coach. He becomes the 11th coach in school history and brings more than 20 years of coaching experience from the youth to the high school level.

“The St. Francis community is excited to have Coach Woolridge join us as a teacher and coach, said St. Francis President Rev. Geoff Rose, OSFS. “I’m confident that Woolridge will fit right in here.”

Mr. Woolridge has previously coached high school football at Gonzaga College, Bishop O’Connell, St. Vincent Pallotti, St. Mary’s Ryken and most recently Hawken School in the Cleveland area.

He is a 1993 graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, where he was an all-county and all-conference player, and was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter on the defensive line at Rutgers University.

After graduating from Rutgers in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, Mr. Woolridge played four seasons in the Arena Football League.

“I look forward to being a part of St. Francis, the community and building a competitive championship-caliber program. I am excited to bring my passion for football and teaching to the young men at St. Francis de Sales.”

Mr. Woolridge will be moving to the Toledo area with his wife Johanna and their children, Xavier, Christian and Julianna. He will begin his new role immediately.

“Charles is a leader who is personable and understands the importance of building relationships,” said St. Francis Athletic Director Justin Edgell. “He is a high football IQ guy and has great energy. I am confident Coach Woolridge will ensure the success of our student-athletes on and off the field, making the entire St. Francis community proud.”
