Veterans Memorial Park was closed for several days last week after an eruption of the sewer pump station in the park.
“It made it very sloppy down there,” Rossford city administrator Allyson Murray said. “There was a lot of flooding.”
Theresa Pollick, spokesperson for the Northwestern Water and Sewer District, said the staff was alerted at 6:12 a.m., March 23, that the pump station was in alarm status.
“The district crews responded in less than an hour and quickly made repairs so the station was fully operational,” she explained.
“Crews noticed a minor wastewater overflow spill from a manhole. The spill was contained, cleaned and lime was used to neutralize any odors.”
Ms. Murray said city recreation employees also disinfected the nearby playground equipment and shelterhouses before the park was reopened.
NWSD monitors pumps around the clock using supervisory control and data acquisition technology that sends alerts regarding possible issues, so crews can investigate and respond quickly, Ms. Pollick said.
“This technology proved extremely helpful in preventing this minor spill from becoming a larger issue,” she added.
