Jackie Huffman, current Rossford Board of Education member, plans to run for a third term.

As a lifelong resident and 1979 graduate of the Rossford School District, she is committed to working with the community to preserve the Rossford Schools.

Striving to set an example by inspiring lifelong learning, she is completing her second bachelor’s degree, RN-BSN, and completing certification as a wound and ostomy nurse.

She is the mother of six children, all RHS graduates: Kevin Keller ’04, Kurt Keller ’06, Katie Keller ’08, Kyle Keller ’10, Kerry Keller (deceased in 2012) and Kirsten Keller ’15 and is married to Rossford attorney Rex Huffman.

A registered nurse since 1994, Mrs. Huffman is the former owner and operator of Arlington Truck Company, a dedicated fleet for Pilkington North American fka Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company.

As vice president of the board of education, Mrs. Huffman has served on numerous committees during her two terms on the board. Most recently she has served on the facilities and policy committees.

Her vision has a focus on the students, and her goal is to share that vision with the community.

“In my third term, I will be dedicated to working to preserve our schools,” she explained.

She is a supporter of groups that advocate student success and community involvement, including the Better Schools for Better Community and the Bulldog Foundation.

“Both organizations celebrate the Rossford School District and support students unconditionally,” she noted.

Mrs. Huffman said there are many proud accomplishments that have happened in the school district during her two terms.

These accomplishments include passing a new operating levy in 2015, which was the first new money for the district in 12 years as well as adding two school resource officers/police officers to the district to provide additional security, promote a safe environment for the students and faculty, and provide educational opportunities by those officers in the school facilities.

She noted that a communications director/liaison position was added to promote transparency by informing the community on district news; and the board has continued to renew contracts for Superintendent Dan Creps and Treasurer James Rossler Jr., “who have brought stability, expertise, effectiveness, and foresight to the business of the district.”

The board also had been updating science, social studies and math curriculums as well as adding new programming such as STEM courses and website design, in addition to building new state-of-the-art, 21st century facilities on two campuses.

Mrs. Huffman said the district has benefited from allowing open enrollment of students from outside the district.

Most recently, the board has been discussing the district’s strong financial position that allows for a recommended decrease of 2 mills in existing operating levies that voters will be asked to renew in the spring.

“I look forward to continuing in my current elected position, and I am grateful for the past support of the voters,” Mrs. Huffman said.

“I believe that by working with the residents of the school district, parent groups, school faculty, students and other community leaders, the Rossford School District will continue the work of preserving our schools.”
