Rossford Board of Education president Dawn Burks has announced she is seeking re-election for a fourth term.

Ms. Burks defines the characteristics of her service as “passion, purpose and pride.”

“As an active member of the school board, I have served on various committees and supported many different programs and events,” she explained.

“I have been a part of the passage of multiple levies– which include our amazing new facilities–the development of a preventative maintenance program, the hiring of a new superintendent, and many other great things happening within the school district.

“I would like to continue serving as a member of the Rossford school board and continue to serve the community in a positive way.”

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from Penn State University, she entered the education field as a cross country coach for Sylvania City Schools and became a substitute teacher for Toledo Public Schools.

She continued as the head girls track coach at Central Catholic High School and began pursuing a master’s degree in guidance and counseling at Bowling Green State University.

She then worked at both the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University before she accepted her current position as a guidance counselor at Perrysburg High School.

“Being a counselor has enabled me to utilize my university training in both communication and consultation, as I work with students, parents and other educators,” Ms. Burks said.

Her three children Brian, Johnathan and Brandon attended Rossford Schools.

In August 2005, she was appointed to the Rossford Board of Education from a pool of six candidates and then was elected to the board in November 2009.

“I believe that it is crucial that the community take an active role in the progress of the school system. I also feel that my role as a board member is to openly communicate and provide leadership, so that a strong relationship continues between the school district and the community.”

Ms. Burks is very optimistic about the future of the district.

“It is great to be a Bulldog!” she said. “I am very passionate in my commitment to education and hope I can continue to be a voice for you as citizens in doing what is best for the school district.

“Our children deserve the very best, and I want nothing less than to continue to participate in that effort.”
