Members of the public age 65 and older may sign up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

They are currently available at Mercy Health Perrysburg Hospital, Walgreens in Perrysburg Township and Bowling Green, Kroger and Meijer in Bowling Green, and Wood County Hospital.

An appointment is required to receive a vaccine.

The COVID-19 immunization requires two doses for individuals to achieve the best immunity.

The Wood County Health Department has created a website listing vaccine providers with open appointments.

The website vaccine. woodcountyhealth.org is a “one-stop shop” for information about area providers distributing vaccines.

It lists each vaccine provider and a phone number or website contact for scheduling appointments.

The list is updated as providers receive additional doses each week. It also indicates when appointments are fully booked.

“Vaccine appointments will likely be reserved quickly, and people may need to keep checking back,” Wood County Health Commissioner Ben Robison said.

Making an Appointment by Phone

Anyone who does not have access to a computer or would prefer to schedule an appointment over the phone has several options:

•For appointments at Mercy Health Perrysburg Hospital, call 419-352-8402 and choose option 1 for COVID-19 services, then option 1 for vaccine scheduling.

•For appointments with Wood County Hospital, call 419-728-0642. For anyone who wants an

For anyone who wants an appointment to be scheduled for them, call the health department at 419-352-8402.

Choosing option 1 connects people to services related to COVID-19 (testing, vaccines). Selecting option 1 again from that sub-menu will connect people to support for vaccine scheduling.

To hear a recorded message with the latest information the health department has received about vaccine availability, call 419-352-8402, choose option 1, then option 3. The message also can be accessed by calling 419-518-8023.

Immunizations also are available at the Wood County Health Department, but these are being limited to individuals with specific conditions.

Alex Aspacher, community outreach coordinator for the health department, said they are working with the Wood County Committee on Aging to identify people at increased risk and who face obstacles to accessing vaccines due to limited transportation and other factors.

“Targeting the health department’s doses in this way will help ensure that those who could not otherwise access vaccines are able to receive this protection from COVID-19,” he explained.

Appointments at the health department become available for scheduling at noon each Friday.

School employees across Wood County are scheduled to receive their first vaccine dosage February 19.

As of presstime February 16, the Ohio Department of Health reported that 1,324,206 Ohioans have received the first round of the COVID-19 vaccine, which equals 11.3 percent of the population.

In Wood County, 15,955 people, or 12.2 percent of the population, have been vaccinated. In Lucas County, there have been 54,209 people, or 12.6 percent, vaccinated.
