Rossford teachers volunteer at Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival

Rossford Association of Classroom Teachers (RACT) volunteered their time and talents to assist with the Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival held at Rossford Junior-Senior High School on March 18. The RACT donated $300 to the event through their jeans fund. Staff members pay a dollar each week to wear jeans on Fridays to benefit local charities. NAMI to host mental health conference

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County, a self-help organization offering free events, educational classes, support groups, and other programs that address mental health for the Wood County community, will host a hybrid Mental Health Conference Series on Friday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Bowling Green State University Levis Commons, 1655 North Wilkinson Way, Perrysburg.

Biggest Week in American Birding is about to begin

The Biggest Week in American Birding is here, and the Journal offers a preview each week of the types of birds residents and visitors will encounter at area parks. The 10-day festival in northwest Ohio–the Warbler Capital of the World–runs May 5 to 14, and attracts visitors from throughout the country to the shores of Lake Erie.

Twp. trustees to perform survey work for new bldg. at administration complex

After some discussion, the Perrysburg Township trustees approved a contract with Garcia Surveyors, Inc., to perform a topographic of the administration complex property at 26609 Lime City Road. Administrator Jon Eckel said Munger Munger + Associates Architects Inc., the design architect for the proposed new administration building, solicited quotes from four entities and recommended awarding Garcia Surveyors the project for $4,160.

Summer festival features country music stars

Local families are encouraged to clear the calendar for the weekend of June 16 to 18 and plan three days of music, fun and family- friendly entertainment. As part of the 125th Anniversary of Rossford, the city has secured nationally acclaimed country artists; Grammy winner Ashley McBryde, and Gary LeVox—front man for Rascal Flatts, as well as local artist and nationalaward winning polka band, DynaBrass.

Rossford BOE approves personnel matters

At the April 24 meeting, the Rossford board of education took action on a number of personnel matters. They issued continuing contracts for 2023-24 to Amy Brown, Julie Odenweller and Kellie Kelly.

City council authorizes creation of a DORA

Rossford city council adopted an ordinance creating a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, which will span much of the downtown area. At the April 24 meeting, council approved the measure unanimously, with the exception of Councilman Robert Ruse who was not in attendance.

Free tours of the former Libbey-Owens-Ford company

NSG, the former Libbey-Owens-Ford (LOF) Company, will offer free guided tours on four to six-person golf carts at its float glass facility on Friday, July 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. Groups will learn about various elements of the glass making-process while enjoying local history at the facility.
