The 18th annual Wood County Living History Day will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 22, on the Wood County Historical Museum grounds, 13660 County Home Road, Bowling Green.
Local residents will portray early citizens of Wood County. The 2021 honorees were chosen to coincide with the museum’s photography exhibit, “People, Places and Things.”
The honorees are:
•Addie and John Cain as portrayed by Deb Shaffer and Heath Diehl–follow their story from Little Big Horn to a very popular potato chip company.
•Jerome Calkins portrayed by Dale David–passed the teachers exam at the age of 14, followed by many interesting experiences.
•Ellen Jane Kramp Phillips, portrayal by Kelli Kling–the first Tomato Queen of Wood County.
•Lucy Veler portrayed by Alex Gagyi–the unofficial historian of South Church Street.
•James Walker portrayal by Bob Midden–professional photographer in Bowling Green from 1887-1936.
•Narrator Keith Guion–host of the 2021 Living History Day program.
In addition to re-enactors, the day will feature music by A Joyful Noise prior to the presentations.
There also will be a drone golf ball drop fund-raiser. The drop will take place immediately after the program concludes, at about 3 p.m. Golf balls are one for $15 or three for $30, and participants need not be present to win. Cash prizes for the winning golf balls are first in hole/closest, $500; second closest, $250; third closest, $100, and furthest from the hole, $50. Golf balls will be sold until 2:30 p.m. August 22, or until sold out.

Living History Day is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the museum’s parking lot, and the Wood County sheriff’s auxiliary will provide free rides from the parking lot to the program location.
Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved inside to the museum’s meeting room, and the performance will be live streamed on Facebook.
