At the February 9 commissioners meeting, Wood County engineer John Musteric presented a list of proposed bridge and road projects for 2021.

Locally, he plans to work on the Hull Prairie Road bridge 0.10 miles north of Roachton Road in Perrysburg Township. Estimated cost of the project is $850,000.

Other bridges slated for work are Stony Ridge Road over Toussaint Creek; Gorrill Road bridge west of Mitchell Road, Bowling Green; Cloverdale Road bridge, south of Jerry City Road, Bloom Township; Mears Road bridge between Tank Farm and Yates roads, also Bloom Township, and Long Judson Road bridge west of Tontogany Road, Plain/ Washington townships. Cost for the projects will be $1.52 million.

Road projects on tap this year include Oregon Road, capacity optimization project and Oregon Road from U.S. Route 20 to the Ohio Turnpike bridge.

In all, 29.7 miles of road will be attended to at a cost of $6.26 million.

In other business, the commissioners approved the refinancing of Wood County Hospital bonds. Karol Bortel, hospital chief financial officer, said refinancing will save $4.1 million over the life of the bond.

February 2 Meeting

The commissioners presented a check for $276,144, which they had appropriated in 2021 for the Soil and Water Conservation District.

SWCD administrator Jim Carter accepted the check and provided an overview of the district’s activities.

“We have been working with Governor DeWine on the H2Ohio initiative,” he said, adding, “There are currently 124 farmers under contract, encompassing approximately 78,000 acres.”

He noted that two SWCD board members stepped down and have been replaced by Matt Davis and Logan Riker-Chamberlain.

In other business, the commissioners:

•Authorized a purchase order to Ohio CAT for repair to the water tank component of a haul truck at a cost of $37,052.

•Approved the purchase of a P Plotter Design Jet for the county engineer’s office for $5,985 and a GPS receiver for $2,245.

•Purchased three, fourdrawer filing cabinets for the juvenile court, $2,216. Also purchased for the court were two training tables for $1,637.

•Approved the purchase of a laptop mount and cradle for the dog shelter van, $993.
