Rossford police and fire/EMS have responded to more than 800 calls at Knights Inn on Buck Road during the past two years.

Councilman Jerry Staczek believes the cost to city services is too high.

“That place needs to be shut down immediately,” he said. “It’s been nothing but trouble for this community for over 30 years. They’re a drain on our resources.”

He pointed out that the Days Inn on Miami Street recently was closed by Toledo city officials after Toledo police responded to 182 calls, averaging about five calls each month for crimes such as assault, domestic violence, weapons, overdoses and more.

Mr. Staczek also said Maumee shut down Woodspring Suites after operating only one year because it was the scene of many domestic violence, rape and drugrelated calls.

He believes council should take the same action at Knights Inn, especially with concerns about human trafficking.

The councilman recognizes that some people need the lowcost housing, but he suggested the city work with area programs and churches to assist them.

Law director Kevin Heban said nuisance issues have been examined by the police and state fire marshal’s office.

“We have looked at it and have been in touch with the owner–it’s ongoing,” he added.
