Gavin Linkous of Rossford was one of two students awarded the Edward J. Kiernan Memorial Scholarship by the International Union of Police Associations. He is the son of Greg Linkous, a member of the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association, I.U.P.A. Local 10. He plans to pursue a career in the law enforcement field. Gavin will attend Ohio Dominican University to study criminal justice. Also receiving a scholarship was Isaiah Bruhn of Waterville, who attended Anthony Wayne High School. His father, Scott Bruhn, also is a member of the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association. Isaiah will attend Bowling Green State University to study cybersecurity.

On this, President Michael Haynes said, “As President of Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association, #10, I am so pleased that both Gavin and Isaiah are pursuing careers in the law enforcement field. I know they will excel in criminal justice and cybersecurity at Ohio Dominican University and Bowling Green State University. TPPA’s members, our department and our community are beyond proud.”

The scholarship was established in 1999 by Sam Cabral, I.U.P.A.’s international president. Mr. Cabral said his reason was, “The future of America rests in the hands of our youth who choose to pursue careers that serve the public interest. We owe it to future generations to support young people who choose to dedicate their lives to protecting our communities.”
