Rossford Drama will present its summer production of “Disney’s Newsies Jr.” on Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9, in the high school auditorium.
Curtain time is 7 p.m. A total of 48 current Rossford students and alumni are involved in the production, performing onstage and working backstage and in the booth.
The production is a 60- minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film and inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from throughout the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what is right.
The show includes the class songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day” and “Santa Fe.”
“Newsies is such a fun show,” director Jessica Witulski said. “The music is fantastic, and most theater kids have grown up singing ‘Seize the Day’ and ‘King of New York.’ It’s been a blast to watch our students take on this iconic musical, developing their skills and really growing in their love of theater.”
Tickets are available at the door and cost $8, adults; $5, students, seniors and children.
The cast includes Jonathan Bias, Van Kleinhans, Izabella Hernandez, Tannek Bias, Nolan Kieper, Brendan Cox, Miracle Spain, Zane Gerlach, Jason Beckwith, Kaitlyn Dewey, Hayden Purtee, Emma Fish, Clare Logan, James Lesick, Owen Klocko, Carlos Santellana, Ty Klocko, Sofia Santellana, Darren Parlette, Paige Danford, Melody Haase, Mo Williams, Camille Harmon, Alexia Redmond, Delia Zawodni, Liberty Thacker, Drevin Goddard, Rose Klocko, Bella Coatney, Amy Claypool, Dana Chen, Lexi Klocko, Alana Harris, Andrew Walters, Celeste Hughes and Madeline Logan.
