Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers advocate for the best interest of children who have experienced abuse and neglect, most of whom are in foster care.
They get to know the child and their family, and make recommendations to the court regarding services and placement to help families remain strong.
Residents may participate in a virtual volunteer information session to learn the role of CASA volunteers and how to become involved in Wood County. The program will give information and answer questions for those interested in volunteering now or at a later date.
The next session is scheduled for Tuesday, February 14, at 11 a.m. The Zoom link is us06web.zoom.us/j/8186 3396706.
Those unable to attend a session, or would prefer a one-on-one conversation about this volunteer opportunity, may call 419-352-3554 or send an email to casa@woodcountyohio.gov.
Volunteers must be 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, complete an extensive background check and participate in 30 hours of pre-service training.
Typically, CASA volunteers donate five to 10 hours per month.
Upcoming training dates include: Wednesday, March 15, at noon; Thursday, April 27, at 1 p.m.; Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m.; Monday, June 12, at 10 a.m.; Tuesday, July 18, at 11 a.m.; and Wednesday, August 23 at noon.
