Mounting calls, fewer personnel concern fire dept.
Faced with a personnel shortage, the Rossford Fire and Rescue Department is being called upon–more and more and more.
Again last year, the department received in excess of 1,000 calls for service.
“This was our most challenging year in terms of personnel,” Fire Chief Josh Drouard said.
“Many members left the department for various reasons, and the number of members responding to calls has dropped as well. Right now, this is a nationwide challenge for volunteer and part-time fire departments.”
The department has an authorized strength of 35 firefighters/ EMTs, but only 31 current staff including the chief and assistant chief.
