Fire open house honors dedicated past members
The Rossford Fire and Rescue Department started Fire Prevention Week by looking back in time and honoring three past members.
The late George W. Miller Sr., Stephen F. Vedra Sr. and James D. Richards Sr. were recognized by Fire Chief Josh Drouard at the department’s annual open house Monday evening.
“While time steals some memories, and things have changed over the span of the last 80 years since some of these people were on the roster, two things have not: calls keep coming in and people need to respond to those calls,” Chief Drouard said. “As you can see here, the Rossford Fire and Rescue Department has always had community members who were and are answering those calls.” This is the second year that Chief Drouard has recognized past members, adding their names to a plaque on the front exterior of the firehouse. The chief described the contributions of each of the past firefighters. In adding Mr. Miller’s name, he explained how he learned of the family’s involvement in the department.
