Cody Orr signs with Houston Astros
Rossford native Cody Orr remembers back in his days at Eagle Point Elementary he had his sights on playing professional baseball someday. On June 14, his dream—or perhaps destiny—took a step toward fruition when he signed as a free agent with the Houston Astros organization.
Baseball has been part of the 21-year-old’s life for as long as he can remember.
“Since he was 5 years old, maybe younger, he was always chasing after a ball,” his mother Wendy Lewis recalled. “He was always athletic and always anxious to get out there—even when he had to just watch his older brother.”
Usually the Major League Baseball rookie draft goes 40 rounds, but this year due to the coronavirus, the MLB season was delayed and minor league seasons have mostly been canceled. With this interruption, the draft only posted five rounds.
