Richard “Rich” Grant Lydy, age 50, passed peacefully into Heaven on Friday, March 2, 2018, in Toledo, Ohio. He did not fear death and looked forward to meeting Jesus. Rich was born January 25, 1968, in Toledo, Ohio, and was the third child born to Ann “Colleen” Lydy and Richard (Dick) Lydy. Rich will be remembered for his very developed sense of humor and his love of family and friends. Rich most recently lived in New Port Richey, Florida, where he established and grew his industrial supply business, Lydy’s Tool and Die Supply, using the skills he learned from his father at Lydy’s Industrial in Point Place. After graduating from Whitmer High School in 1987, Rich lived on Marco Island, Florida, and in San Marcos, California. Upon moving to Florida about 15 years ago, Rich settled in Safety Harbor and ran a landscape business trimming palms and earning a reputation as very reliable and professional. He made friends easily, especially with those who shared his passion for cars and boats. Rich thoroughly enjoyed his lifestyle in Florida, where he could jet ski and golf often, and where the moist, humid air gave relief to his asthma symptoms. In recent years, he developed a strong relationship with Christ and was baptized again. He found great comfort and kinship with friends, family and his fiancée, Kelly, who shared his commitment to his faith. Rich is survived by his parents, Dick and Colleen Lydy; his brothers, Mark (Chris) Lydy and Bartley J. Lydy, Sr.; his sister, Donna (Todd) Smith, and his six nephews; Todd Lydy, Chad Lydy, Bartley J. Lydy, II, Drew Lydy, Riley Smith and Reagan Smith. He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Kelly Haas. Family and friends were invited to visit and say goodbye on Tuesday, March 6, at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home at 5300 N. Summit Street in Point Place. Visitation concluded with a chance to share stories and memories. Family and friends met at the funeral home at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, March 7, for a prayer before proceeding to Rich’s resting place at Resurrection Cemetery for a committal service at 11 a.m. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or to the organization of your choice.
