Dominic Slaninka, age 98, of Toledo’s Point Place community passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018. He was born March 27, 1920, in Springfield Township, Ohio, to Vencel and Antonia (Hagofsky) Slaninka. Dominic proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 110. He was retired from the Dana Corporation. Dominic enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his beloved rose bushes. Dominic is survived by his daughter, Janice (Joseph) Mossing; grandchildren, Lawrence (Becky) Mossing, Gregory (Amy) Mossing and Sarah (Christopher) Kos, and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Christopher Jr. Kos, Nicholas, Emily, Tucker and Cassidy Mossing. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Slaninka; sisters, Verona Anderson, Rose Coon and Mary Ostofi; brothers, Vincent, Anthony, Joseph and Frank Slaninka, and great-grandson, Infant Mossing. Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 North Summit Street, Toledo. The Funeral Service for Dominic followed in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Services concluded with military honors in Swanton Cemetery. Dominic’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Northwest Ohio and Landings of Oregon for the compassionate and expert care.
