Plan for restoring power explained
When the lights go out, furnaces go cold and screens go blank, the question on everyone’s mind quickly becomes: when will the electricity be restored?
FirstEnergy Corp. has a multi-layered answer to that question that involves mobilizing many teams of people.
“When storms or other severe weather is forecast, we activate formal readiness plans to ensure plenty of service crews are prepared to tackle the damage,”said Chris Eck, spokesman for Toledo Edison, a FirstEnergy utility.
Toledo Edison recognizes that storms may damage a variety of electrical facilities, affecting customers in different ways.
Power may be knocked out to large numbers of residential customers, hospitals, police and fire departments, water pumping stations, schools or other public facilities, Mr. Eck pointed out.
