Lucas County Land Bank’s demolition project running ahead of schedule
One year ago, the Lucas County Land Bank set a goal for the record books. Now, they are on track to break it.
At a news conference last week in front of a recently renovated home and an adjacent side yard created after demolition, Wade Kapszukiewicz, chair of the Land Bank’s Board of Directors, announced that the Land Bank had renovated or demolished 550 properties during the past year. Mr. Kapszukiewicz was joined by Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, Lucas County Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak, both members of the Land Bank’s Board of Directors, and key Land Bank staff.
“Last year, we promised that a vacant house would be renovated or demolished every day for the next 1,500 days,” said Mr. Kapszukiewicz. “Thanks to a dedicated staff and resident support, we have surpassed that goal by 185 properties in the first year–putting us six months ahead of schedule.”
