BETTY LOU HENDERSON
Betty Lou Henderson, 82, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky, surrounded by family on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She was born on September 23 or September 24, 1934, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Katherine Glenn and Robert “Wilbur” Hayslip. She was raised by a single mother in a modest, working class neighborhood, and, growing up, was especially close to her uncles. On March 23, 1951, she married Garnel Vincent Russell. Together, they had a son and two daughters and shared 25 years of passionate marriage before his passing in 1977. On April 10, 1979, she married Wattie Gene Henderson. Throughout 26 years, they shared a devoted love that withstood the test of cancers, illness, and tragedy prior to Wattie’s death in 2005. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur; her mother, Catherine, and her husbands, Garland and Wattie. Left to honor Betty and remember her love are her three children, Linda (Don) Payton, Mike (Pam) Russell, Karen “Susie” (Matt) Gerald; her 10 grandchildren, Don (Shellie) Payton, Greg (Wiera) Payton, Aaron (Sarah) Payton, Andrea (Sam) Alonzo, Josh Suttles, Jesse Suttles, Emily (Jay) Johnson, Heather Collier, Nathan (Dianne) Gerald and Leigh Anne Gerald; her 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, and many friends and extended family members. Betty was a strong and tenacious woman who loved fiercely. She will be dearly missed.
