Perrysburg Twp. defrauded in check washing scheme
Check washing can happen to anyone at any time, and this time the victim was Perrysburg Township.
At the July 19 township trustees meeting, Fiscal Officer Shirley Haar said the township had been defrauded out of $4,834.23 when a check written to an area business for $339 was washed and the new amount put in its place.
Check washing is the illegal process of erasing details from checks to allow them to be rewritten by a thief for withdrawal from the victim’s bank account.
