Mary “Rusty” (Denko) Heban, age 94, of Rossford, passed away on September 25, 2017, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born on May 20, 1923, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, to Michael and Eva (Hnatiow) Denko. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Rossford High School. She married Peter P. Heban on July 2, 1949, where they were the first couple married in the new St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church on Walnut Street. She had worked for many years at Ohio Bell as a phone operator and then went to work for Owens Tech in the controller’s office until her retirement. Mary was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church, where she enjoyed making pierogis, and All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was an amazing cook and baker and has passed her recipes along for others to enjoy. Surviving are her children, Daria Heban, Michael (Christine) Heban, and Debra (Dave Kleeberger) Wise; grandchildren, Ashley (Jerry Gray) Wise, Dylan (Keri) Wise, and Tyler (Alyssa Sweerman) Wise, MacKenzie (Ben) Keim, Kayla Knudsen, Michael Heban, and Justin Heban; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Bentlie Keim, and brother in-law, Jim Kotecki. Also surviving are her special cousin, John Kozlosky and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter in 1990; brother, Michael (Jeanne) Denko, and sister, Helen Kotecki. Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, on Wednesday, October 4, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church in Rossford. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church or the Cherry Street Mission. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and aides for the special care shown to Mary.
