‘Last Hurrah’ planned for RHS fieldhouse

Karen Swartz remembered as pioneer for girls sports at RHS

There are many Rossford legends who have made the fieldhouse special to so many Bulldogs–great coaches, players, athletic directors, fans, cheerleaders and band members.

One key person who has been recently highlighted by RHS alumni is Karen Swartz. “Karen Swartz is the reason why girls sports began here,” said former girls basketball player and coach Lorie Pietrasz.

“Karen fought to make sure we got to play in this gym and had everything that the guys had. She was definitely a pioneer, and definitely is still a part of every female who went through and played athletics here.”

Ms. Swartz started her career as a teacher with Rossford Schools in 1965. During the next two decades, she served as a coach, advisor, dean of students and athletic director for the school district.
