GERALDINE “GERRY” DUCEY

Geraldine “Gerry” (Gorsuch) Ducey, age 91, left this life on December 13, 2017. Born to Elsie (Johanssen) and Ray Gorsuch, Geraldine was the youngest of their four daughters. She was born on March 3, 1926, while her family was living on Kelleys Island, and raised in Tiffin, Ohio, where she attended Columbian High School and Heidelberg College. She married her husband Jim on his birthday, August 19, 1946. They had celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage when Jim passed away unexpectedly just a week before their anniversary. Their life together took them many places. They lived in Little Creek, Virginia, and Cincinnati, Ohio, before settling in Toledo. They raised two children, Bill and Janet. Family vacations were often spent on their boat, Shellback. Boating weekends included trips to Put-in-Bay, Kelleys Island, Cedar Point, Boblo Island, and lots of fishing. Shellback was always the first boat in for the season and the last to dry dock. Road trips were always fun, stopping only when the car needed gas. Gerry would start looking for hotels shortly after lunch while Jim’s plan was to drive as many miles in a day as possible. Gerry loved to travel. Their adventures took them to Europe, Japan, Hawaii, and many places in between. They seemed to take different vacations, as their stories were never the same. They always returned with unique gifts for family. Cruises became an annual vacation in their retirement years. Wonderful memories were made with family and friends on many voyages. Gerry loved to cook and bake, and always served the biggest pieces of cakes and pies. Holidays meant making sure everybody’s favorites were at the table. She loved to play games and enjoyed going to the Friendship Park Community Center for Scrabble, cards, and bingo. She enjoyed music and played the piano. She also loved to crochet, and made many beautiful keepsakes. After Jim passed, Gerry did her best to enjoy life. She continued to travel whenever she could, and loved spending her Saturday nights having dinner with family at the Chateau Louise Restaurant. She was very grateful for the opportunity to attend the Friendship Park Community Center and always enjoyed the conversation and cocktails at Ottawa River and Riverview Yacht Clubs. Gerry is survived by her children, Bill (Carol) Ducey and Janet (Michael) Dombkowski; granddaughters, Holly (Zachary) Hillyer and Heidi (Jonathan) Anderson; great granddaughter, Avery Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; sisters, Barbara McAnelly, Beatrice Brill and Marjorie Saunders; and great granddaughter, Emily Anderson. Services for Gerry were held at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe on December 16. Interment followed in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Friendship Park Community Center, P.O. Box 5343 Toledo, OH 43611. Please view and share condolences at www.sujkowski.com
