Board of education hears policy overview on epinephrine auto-injector–EpiPen

Three years ago, the 130th Ohio General Assembly passed R.C. 3313.711 procurement of epinephrine auto-injectors for public schools. In an article by NBC News it stated, “The children most likely to benefit from the law are those who aren’t known to have an allergy who suddenly go into anaphylaxis, a potentially deadly immune reaction to food, insect bites or other allergens.”

At the September 18 meeting of the Perrysburg Board of Education, Superintendent Tom Hosler reviewed the district’s policy on EpiPens.

He told board members that a policy was put in place in 2015 to address the need to acquire epinephrine auto injectors for use in emergency situations to accommodate individuals with undiagnosed life-threatening allergies–policy 5330.02 procurement and use of epinephrine autoinjectors in emergency situations and administrative guideline 5330.02 epinephrine auto-injectors: maintenance and use.
