Tax valuations draw ire of area residents
A rule that allows school districts to contest property valuations of homes that sold for more than the Lucas County auditor’s office deems they are worth, drew a room full of residents to the Springfield Schools board of education meeting.
It was standing room only at the September 27 session, as nearly a dozen residents addressed the school board about their property tax increases.
Mike Buck, a 2002 alum, said he recently moved back into the district only to receive a “$5,000 welcoming letter from the board of revisions.”
Mr. Buck understands the school district’s funding dilemma and is willing to help the board fight the issue in Columbus, but he doesn’t believe the practice of contesting valuations is appropriate.
