Students wade into Metroparks construction project
Construction students from Penta Career Center, above, have been trekking across the Maumee River each day to Granger Island in Waterville, gaining practical experience while working on a unique project for Metroparks of the Toledo Area.
The crew of 20 seniors is constructing two tent platforms and an outhouse with a composting toilet as part of an island campground. The campsites will be promoted for kayakers and canoeists on the Maumee River, which is expected to be designated in the near future as a state water trail. Farnsworth Metropark, nearby, also has riverside campsites and a boat launch to accommodate paddlers and other campers.
