Just in the nick of time
More than 70 kittens, cats, puppies and dogs from a Florida animal shelter now call the Toledo Humane Society home. The animals were shipped to northwest Ohio ahead of Hurricane Irma and not a minute too soon, as the shelter in which they had been housed lost its roof during the storm.
Humane society staff are caring for the pets and looking for new homes for them. They also are seeking monetary donations to offset veterinary and other costs associated with their care. Anyone interested in adopting one or more pets is asked to visit the animal shelter at 827 Illinois Avenue, Maumee. The society is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. Pets from the Florida shelter are labeled with a hurricane symbol on their kennels.
